Small dense, thorny, deciduous tree, flowering in spring and berrying in autumn. The pink or white flowers are pollinated by midges. Related to Common Hawthorn but with less deeply lobed leaves.

Treatment required: Deeply dormant. 39wks stratification needed, 
at least 3mths moist warm followed by the same moist cold. 
Scarifying the seed might speed germination up.

Ideal sowing period: Spring. Be prepared to wait a long time
Soil Conditions :  Any well drained
Planting : Good for exposed or coastal sites, hedging and screening.
