Description

Lythrum salicaria

Purple Loosestrife is a highly decorative wildflower perennial for full sun and moist soil. 60-90cm tall. Looks especially attractive grown with Meadowsweet. Good for bees and butterflies and as food for various beetles and weevils. Imported into parts of America and New Zealand, it has become a bit of a nuisance but is controlled biologically using beetles. Sow at any time of year, but don’t cover the really fine seed.
