Description
Iris foetidissima
Also know as Stinking Gladwyn or Welsh Gladwyn. A wild perennial of rough places with coarse strap-like evergreen leaves, quite often ragged at the ends. In late spring the subtle flowers emerge, veined purple/blue/beige and develop into fantastically bright orange berries held in almost woody capsules, over a long period through the winter.
It can grow into large clumps. Tolerant of all conditions including coastal and dry shade which makes it really useful!
Sow in the spring.
Seed from Shropshire
