Description

Tiny, pea-like, scented flowers in spikes from late June, excellent food for bees. Tall rambling plants with thick tap roots which fix nitrogen in the soil. Plants are annual or biennial and seed is best sown in the autumn. Tolerates low temps and dry calcareous soils but doesn’t like wet roots. Historically,  Melilot was used as a cover crop to enhance the fertility of the soil, especially where the land was too dry for clover.
