Kerria or Japanese Rose is a graceful suckering shrub that produces rich butter yellow flowers in mid spring. Although it is deciduous its green stems provide winter colour. The shrub mainly seen in gardens is the double-flowered variety, but there are also white flowered ones and varieties with variegated leaves. Kerria from seed will produce quite large single flowers early in the summer.
