Description
Greater Stitchwort
Stellaria holostea
Greater Stitchwort has star shaped, understated white flowers, with 5 deeply lobed petals. It is a native perennial wildflower and the flowers appear in hedgerows in April and May above the soft linear leaves. It quite often grows with wild Forget-Me-Not and Red Campion, making a lovely sight in spring. Seeds are shot out of their capsules with a ‘pop’. It can be used as a cure for ‘stitch’ by energetic people!
Sow any time either in seed trays for planting out when big enough, or directly into flowering positions.
Seed from Shropshire
