Description

Chelidonium majus

Greater Celandine is a perennial wildflower found in stony roadsides, wall bases and gravel paths. Fresh green leaves grow to about 0.5m sprouting from hairy stems. When broken, the stems exude a yellow, staining sap, supposedly useful as a cure for warts, though it is an irritant. Yellow flowers in mid May look like simple poppies, and indeed the plant is one of the poppy family.

Sow in prepared ground, late summer or autumn or chill the seed mixed with damp sand in the fridge for a few weeks.
