An annual or biennial of rough, poor places. Tall growing and messy! Beloved of bees and hoverflies

Spikes of tiny pea-like, scented flowers in spikes from late June, excellent food for bees. Tall rambling plants with thick tap roots which fix nitrogen in the soil. Plants are annual or biennial and seed is best sown in the autumn. Tolerates low temps and dry calkcareous soils but doesn't like wet roots.
