Slender spikes of small yellow flowers appear from June. Common on edgelands and waysides

A small perennial, usually of well drained spots. 
Delicate star shaped yellow flowers develop into
hooked burrs for seed dispersal. 
Chaffinch feed on them in the autumn.
Historically used against snake bite, to calm digestive upsets
and help catarrh.
Sow spring or late summer, some time in damp sand in the fridge
might help germination.
