Latin Name: Hyacinthoides non-scripta
Forestart Reference: BLUBE

Nodding heads of flowers above glossy strap leaves in May. They will grow reasonably in most conditions except the hottest and driest.

Spectacular carpets of bluebells in spring woodlands are one of Nature's showpieces. Bluebell bulbs need to be left undisturbed for them to spread into any great area, but the show and scent that the nodding heads produce is well worth experiencing. They do well in dappled shade and woodland-litter enriched soil. In folk medicine extracts have been used as a diuretic and to stop bleeding.

Seed requires a moist warmish treatment followed by a cold period. Best to be sown in late summer, in situ.
