Latin Name: Clinopodium vulgare
Forestart Reference: WILBA

Pink flowers in whorls up robust stems in summer and early autumn

Probably more fittingly known as Cushion Calamint, since it bears no resemblance to the culinary Basil. Whorls of pink flowers up hairy stems in mid summer. Prefers chalky heathland and dry hedgebanks.  A good coloniser since it because it spreads by rhizome. Very faint scent, although can still be used as a herbal tea. Plants are food for one or two moths.

Seed from Shropshire
