Latin Name: Silene latifolia alba
Forestart Reference: WHICAM

Startling white flowers, late spring and early summer. Up to 80cm

Less common than the Red Campion, it grows on wasteland, cultivated land, roadsides and hedgerows. Luminous white flowers produce a clove-pink-like scent in the evenings and so attracts moths. Bees visit in the day, caterpillars eat the seeds and earwigs and ladybirds hibernate in the empty seed-cases. A brilliant wildflower for wildlife.
